Founded in 1929, Emerald Bay was named for the color of the nearby waters. Emerald Bay has a rich history, being recognized by European explorers such as Cabrillo and the early 20th century farmers who were drawn here by the fertile ground and temperate climate.
Over time, this private enclave shifted from a low-key beach destination to the ideal coastal community for both families and those seeking solitude. Many of the lots were developed in the 1930s and 1940s.
This relaxed seaside community consists of custom homes with a great variety of architectural styles.
Emerald Bay is not officially a part of the city of Laguna Beach, although it is considered as such for many purposes.
- Emerald Bay is located in a dramatic hillside location just north of Laguna Beach and south of Crystal Cove State Park.
- The community is framed by distinct coastal promontories to the North and South, hillsides to the East, and the Pacific Ocean to the West.
- Emerald Bay is located on both sides of Coast Highway, connected via a tunnel, with front row seating to the Pacific Ocean on the west side and hillside properties on the east side.
- Emerald Bay's premier properties boast ocean, bay, Catalina Island, canyon, and mountain views.
- Emerald Bay contains 526 custom homes with 14 beachfront lots surrounded by 14 acres of lush private parks.
- Emerald Bay's immediate neighbors are Irvine Cove to the north and Smithcliffs to the south.
The central Laguna Beach village is only 5 minutes to the south, Corona del Mar is 10 minutes to the north,

Emerald Bay Laguna Beach Homes For Sale
Most of the Emerald Bay homes are on the north side of the highway, climbing the Laguna Coast hills and granting commanding views of the surrounding coastline.
The community consists of 11 separate tracts, governed by their own sets of rules, but these are unified under the Emerald Bay Community Association.
Homes in Emerald Bay are highly sought after, due to access to a beautiful private beach, the views, and general location. But the homes themselves are a big feature as well, with some asking more than $20,000,000.
Wide balconies and terraces are specifically designed to take in the views, while the steep and terraced layout makes expansive yards impractical. The homes in Emerald Bay are custom builds and span a variety of styles and decades of construction. As such, you'll see many designs, layouts, and sizes in this community, making for relatively diverse housing stock, given the prestige of the area.
