Cameo Shores Real Estate Information

Cameo Shores is a non-gated community with an exclusive and private feel, located just south of the Pacific Coast Highway between Shore Cliffs (north) and Pelican Point (south). Cameo Shores has a terraced layout, with streets descending parallel towards the ocean.

There are a little over 170 properties in Cameo Shores, ranging from 2 million dollars to more than 50 million dollars. Cameo Shores is also home to the famous Portabello Estate mansion, which was listed for an astounding figure in excess of $70,000,000.

All the homes are custom, with styles ranging from unassuming mid-century ranch to hyper-modern and avant-garde designs. They are all restricted to building at ground level or below, ensuring that properties have access to beautiful views.

Other common features are large, resort-style pools, and large lawns for the more modestly sized homes.

Cameo Shores Location & Direction

Driving south from central Corona del Mar, the entrance to Cameo Shores is located on the right-hand side of the road after only 5 minutes or 1 mile. Central Newport Beach is 15 minutes, or 5 miles, away.

Neighboring communities include Pelican Point to the south, Cameo Highlands to the north-northeast, Corona del Mar Villas to the northwest, and Shore Cliffs to the north.

The southern boundary of Cameo Shores is marked by the protected beaches and rocky shoreline surrounding Cameo Shores Beach. This beach is privately accessible to members of the combined Cameo community. Cameo Shores' border with Pelican Point is also marked by some greens and fairways of the Pelican Hill Golf Course.

Residents of Cameo Shores have access to the trails, beaches, and lookout points around this part of the golf course via a small gate at the southeastern edge of the community.

Cameo Shores Area Highlights & Amenities

One of the main reasons why Cameo Shores is such a highly desirable community to live in is the amazing location that is home to an inspiring array of attractions.

For example, a short distance south there is the Crystal Cove State Park, with unspoiled coastal scrubland, trails, secluded beaches, and view sites.

There's also the previously mentioned Pelican Hill Golf Club and Resort. Play a golf game with views of the ocean, or lounge around their large circular pool after getting a bite to eat at the Coliseum Pool & Grill. This is an all-around great event space and recreation facility.

North towards Newport Beach, there are the many attractions of this bustling and vibrant seaside town. Cafes, boutique stores, museums and libraries, more parks, and endless options for enjoying the ocean abound in this area.

You can also visit Fashion Island at Newport Center - one of the premier shopping destinations in Southern California. Further inland is the city of Irvine, complete with the University of California campus and John Wayne Airport.

Within Cameo Shores itself, there is, of course, the private beach, but it also has its own park and playground off Cameo Shores Road at the northeastern point of the community.

Cameo Shores History

Cameo Shores was first developed in the 1960s by the Irvine Company, sold as a series of leases on completely un-improved plots of land. This development was initially undertaken in conjunction with The Sunny Homes Corporation. The area was originally called Cameo Cliffs, but the name was changed soon after its inception.

While many of the original homes still exist, being somewhat smaller and finished in typical mid-century ranch, revival, or modern styles, many newer homes have appeared in recent years. These newer homes tend to be larger, with some building down into the hill to provide lower-level access, and others even combining lots to produce a few of the areas famed "super" mansions.
