It was Friday night and I was absolutely craving Italian food. Thinking we could go back to the always delicious Pirozzi in Corona Del Mar, or head down to Romeo Cucina in Laguna Beach - both of which rarely disappoint. But on this night, neither option was going to satisfy my appetite for Italian food - I knew it was time to try something new.

Every time I drive down the 405 to Shady Canyon I pass by a restaurant called Il Fornaio - and since I've heard only good things, it was time I tried it for myself. We made reservations day-of and received an excellent table right at 7 PM.

Right away we noticed the exceptional service and attention to detail. Our server was expedient and helpful as we sorted through an expansive menu, and the army of gentlemen in red coats (not to be confused with the British!) who were at our beck and call with delicious bread and cocktails. By the time the meal came - Il Fornaio captured all of the details that already made me say, 'I'll be back!'

For dinner - we ordered the veal and ravioli respectively and both were very tasty. We will certainly be adding Il Fornaio to our rotation - just as long as they put a governor on how many baskets of bread we can eat! Il Fornaio bakes their own bread in-house, so you know it's good.

You can find Il Fornaio's Irvine location just off the San Diego Freeway (I-405), between MacArthur Boulevard and Central Park West Irvine. The restaurant is located in a low, grey and gold building easily visible from the Freeway. You can't miss it!
